A pre-apogee Techfest, INVENZIONE’09 will provide you the much needed opportunity to showcase your talent on a international platform… ya you got it right …A ticket to Taiwan.
An ASME powered techfest aims at providing the students exposure and a much needed platform to showcase their ideas on a larger scale. INVENZIONE’09 will serve as the preliminary stage for Student Professional Development Conference (SPDC) in Taiwan from April 9-11. The festival to be held in BITS-PILANI from 20th -22nd February, will serve as the national stage for many events: from mars rover to oral presentation and from quizzes to CAD modeling. This festival will also serve as the international platform for Student Leadership Seminar (SLS) which will be held for the first time in India.

STUDENT DESIGN CONTEST (MARS ROCKS):
A much awaited and highly acclaimed event of INVENZIONE is SDC (Student Design Contest).It is the event which will provide you with the ticket to Taiwan and have an impressive moolah (as a prize money) associated with it. SDC will serve as the preliminary stage for Student Professional Development Conference (SPDC) to be held in Taiwan. Winners then proceed to finals at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE).
Gear up, and be ready to prove your mettle. Participants will be required to design and build a vehicle, on the lines of highly acclaimed MARS ROVER. Each team is required to design, construct and operate a prototype meeting the requirements of a given problem statement.
CAD-MODELING:
Show the power of your imagination. Designers out there extrude your designing skills. Innovate...Design, thus Bridge the gap between human intelligence & the final product!
In the prelims participants will be required to make a 3D model of a car jack based on mentioned requirements. The second round will have on spot problem.
The teams are supposed to make such a model using any of the following softwares: SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, PRO-E or UNIGRAPHIX
MECHANICA:
Gear up for the most enthralling event of Invenzione. . Show us, how mechanical engineer you are. Be ready to get your Mechanical Engineering quotient tested. The quiz will be based on Mechanical Engineering wherein the participants will be judged on their overall knowledge of engineering and its application in our day to day lives.
ORAL PRESENTATION:
"It takes one hour of preparation for each minute of presentation time." Show us how well you present yourself and that too with a Fine content.
The topic is to be related to a technical, economic, or environmental aspect of engineering or any other basic engineering theme, provided it pertains to some sphere in which a mechanical engineer. Judging will be based on content and presentation skills
.POSTER PRESENTATION:
“Cob…...Your vision”. The poster competition is designed to emphasize the ability to deliver a visual presentation. The topic is to be related to any mechanical engineering theme. Show how well you could convey your thoughts and ideas without using the most common medium of communication i.e. speech.
WEB PAGE DESIGNING COMPETITION:
“No motors, no engines... pure brainwork is all that's needed here.”
Students are encouraged to utilize their web design skills to design a website. Think…Design…Code….Win.
The presentations will be judged in four categories: Content, Organization, Delivery and Effectiveness and Discussion.
The working platform will be NT™ based, not UNIX™ based. It should be on a Flash drive, CD (100 MB limit).

I'm not a river but I'm full of water..
What am I??
Had you asked this question yesterday, we would have answered - cloud. But now we'll say it's a WATER ROCKET !
ASME BITS-PILANI Student Chapter kicked off its first event Water Rocket in style. For those who still don't know what a water rocket is, let us explain it first. Water Rocket is a model rocket which has a plastic bottle as its pressure vessel. It uses water as its reaction mass ( Remember Newton's 3rd law? ) which is forced out by the compresed air, filled in it by an air pump. Sounds fairly simple..na!
But this is not it! Here comes the real task..the water thrust will push the rocket only upto a certain point but after this so as to ensure that it continues its flight properly, you need to make the rocket aerodynamic. The rocket should remain in air for long, along with covering enough distance on ground.
The event saw appreciable participation from junta. There seemed a slight hesitation in the participants at first; but as the event went on, everyone started enjoying. The participants had put in enormous efforts like attaching a parachute, putting a balloon inside bottle, making full-fledged aircraft body, giving the rocket a hovercraft design etc to make the model as aerodynamic as possible. The distances covered by the rockets were as long as 52 meters!
Overall, it was a fun event which everyone enjoyed. We sign off now with a promise to bring a few more entertaining events...Watch out!
